TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria on Wednesday commented on the tariff hike of online ride-hailing services (online ojek). He hopes that it would increase the number of commuters riding public transportation in the capital city. Riza also highlighted the less costly alternative of the city bus Transjakarta.
“Yes, Inshallah, up to this day public transportation such as Transjakarta still has a tariff that is very cheap and extremely affordable,” he said on August 10, Antaranews reported.
Riza said the fare for public transportation such as Transjakarta is still cheaper than public transportation in a number of countries. TransJakarta currently costs Rp3,500 per passenger for one trip. Therefore, public transportation will remain the people's choice in mobility.
On the increase in online motorcycle taxi fares in Greater Jakarta areas, he said that it was the central government's policy to improve transportation services.
"The government regulates online ojek fares for the benefit of all sectors. This is part of the concept for improvement," said Riza.
