TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Legal attorney for Narasi TV, Ade Wahyudin, said that editors of Narasi had received threats in their incoming mail with a message saying "diam atau mati" (silence or die).

"There was an incoming message, in it we can read 'silence or die'. So this message comes several times into our client's server," Ade said while filing a report at the Police Criminal Investigation Headquarters on Friday, September 30, 2022.

Ade, who is also the Executive Director of the Press Legal Aid Agency, said that Narasi TV website was hacked around 3,600 times per minute. In the report, Ade only mentioned the hacking on Narasi TV website, despite the fact that more than 30 email accounts of Narasi employees were also hacked. The hacking on Narasi accounts on September 28, 2022, was then followed by an attack on Narasi TV website on September 29, 2022. Ade also said that the number of accounts that were hacked may continue to increase following further documentation of the attack.

"We are still documenting. We are still examining [the attack] further and considering further legal action," Ade stated.

Ade added that the hacking has certainly disturbed the journalism activities of Narasi TV crews. However, he did not provide further detail on whether the hacking is related to the journalism works of Narasi TV.

Chairman of the Independent Journalist Alliance (AJI) Sasmita Madrim, urged police personnel to thoroughly investigate the hacking. Sasmita argues that the attack against Narasi is not merely a digital attack, but also an attack against journalism and the press.

"Therefore, today we accompany Narasi to urge police personnel to investigate seriously without any further excuse," Sasmito said.

Sasmito explained that on Monday, October 3, 2022, AJI will conduct an audience with the Press Council, which duty is to safeguard the press community. The Press Council had established an Ad Hoc team to handle cases of violence against the press and media companies.

"We hoped that during the meeting on Monday, the Press Council will mobilize the task force on violence against journalists so that the case can be investigated quickly and thoroughly," Sasmito asserted.
