TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Acting Jakarta Governor Heru Budi Hartono said that the provincial government planned to surprise residents of the capital city in commemoration of the 78th anniversary of Indonesia's independence.
"The surprise will start on August 15. In the first week, there will be something that the public can see at night. It is open to the public," said Heru Budi at the Jakarta City Hall, Monday, March 27, 2023.
Heru said that the surprise will be given at around the HI (Hotel Indonesia) Roundabout area. "I can't disclose it yet," Heru Budi said.
The Chief Presidential Secretary emphasized that the provincial government is ready to succeed and enliven the 78th Indonesian Independence Day because this year will be the last time the ceremony will be held in Jakarta.
"The next ceremony in 2024 will be held at IKN Nusantara," Heru Budi said.
Therefore, the provincial government will contribute from the preparations to the implementation of a series of events for the Indonesian Independence Day Anniversary which will be held for a full month from August 1 to 30.
Heru Budi said that there will be entertainment shows at Monas, an entertainment stage, food trucks around Monas, and parades from 38 provinces. "There will also be an event at the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout," Heru added.
Heru underlined that the celebration must be prepared as well as possible. Moreover, there will be a number of events, including mass zikir (chants in praise of God) session, the inauguration of the national flag-hoisting team (Paskibraka), night contemplation, and the peak event of the Independence Day ceremony on August 17.
Therefore, Heru asked all officials of the provincial government to anticipate security and order during the series of events on Independence Day, especially activities that will use motorized vehicle lanes so as not to disturb public mobility. “Everything must be well thought out so as not to harm the community,” Heru Budi concluded.
